Authentic & Romantic Photography

Hi, my name is

Cherise

Lifestyle

storyteller, reluctant adventurer

I was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, and my Koyukon Athabascan heritage is an important part of who I am. “Denaa,” meaning “Our People” in my language, reflects the connection I feel to my culture, my roots, and the places that have shaped me.

I earned my B.A. from Stanford University and my M.P.A. from the University of Alaska Southeast. I’m currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Indigenous Studies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Alongside my academic work, photography has been a constant part of my life since 2015.

Based in Valdez, Alaska, I photograph elopements, intimate weddings, couples, and portraits—from maternity sessions to relaxed lifestyle photography. I’m drawn to photographs that feel genuine and personal rather than overly posed, capturing the little moments, emotions, and details that make each person and experience unique.

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me outside with my poodle mix, Tazlina, named after the Tazlina Glacier and River. She’s always ready for a hike, a game of frisbee, or a cozy cuddle afterward.

I’m also passionate about landscape photography and love chasing dramatic light, changing weather, and those fleeting Alaska moments that make you stop and take it all in. You can find some of my favorite landscape work over on Instagram.
